El Sahly is an infectious disease specialist and an associate professor of molecular virology, microbiology and infectious diseases at the Baylor College of Medicine. She is an investigator at the Baylor College of Medicine Vaccine Research Center and principal investigator at the university’s  Vaccine and Treatment Evaluation Unit. El Sahly also serves as the chair of the Food and Drug Administrations’ Vaccine and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee.
